Setting new fitness goals can be daunting. It’s tricky finding a balance between realistic, attainable goals and ones that will push you. I’m not a fitness expert but I have learned a lot in the past few years while working my booty off after each baby. So you’re ready to turn your life around & fall in love with your beautiful body.. here are some tips from a lady who’s been there!
1. FOCUS ON OVERALL WELLBEING
It’s so important that you begin any fitness journey with a healthy mentality. A revenge plot to make your ex-boyfriend jealous isn’t healthy. To be skinnier than so-and-so isn’t healthy. Shift your focus instead to your overall wellbeing. Here are three words that really get my head in the right place; healthy, confident, happy.
2. TINY VICTORIES
Setting small goals along the way is HUGE for me. I’m constantly setting mini goals to get myself motivated. For example,
- Today, I’ll do 2 more push-ups than usual each time I go through a circuit.
- This week I will exercise 5 days rather than 4.
- Today, I will drink one extra glass of water.
- I’m going to replace that chocolate bar with a handful of almonds.
These tiny victories fuel you to accomplish the larger goals ahead.
3. BE KIND TO YOURSELF
It’s incredibly easy to be hard on ourselves when we slip up. STOP. You can either be your number one ally or your number one enemy. The things you think & say to yourself are game changing. So you ate one piece of chocolate cake? Or maybe you ate the whole dang cake.. it’s O.K. What’s done is done. You can make the choice to love yourself, forgive yourself and through positive thinking propel yourself forward.
4. BE PATIENT
Body’s don’t change overnight. It takes a lot of hard work day in and day out. They change through habits, good or bad. You might not see a change on day three or even week three but don’t let that discourage you. You’ll look back one day and be amazed at how far you’ve come.
